GSL GALLERY 'BLUE STEEL', PARIS

1. 2024

GSL gallery takes a cold, hard look at the design world’s current infatuation with silver metals. Co-curated by gallery founder John Whelan and Kristen de La Vallire of Say Hi To , the show brings together an international crop of established and emerging designers working in aluminium and steel. Exploring themes such as the overkill of brass, Postmodern throwbacks, social media groupthink and gender, BLUE STEEL strikes a wry but appreciative tone.
The scenography is at once jarring and romantic, with iridescent blue walls throughout the ground floor exhibition space, and a more elegant, languid approach to the mezzanine apartment space. These two iterations help to reveal the duality of these metals, namely that they are both striking and poetic, imposing yet delicate.
